    Description:

An S-Shaped wellbore is a directionally drilled well that is typically vertical at the surface, curves out, and curves back vertical to hit the target, forming an S shape.

S-Shaped wells can pose a challenge to automation systems on sucker rod pumped systems. Friction along the rod-string is typically high, often significantly higher than the fluid load on the downhole pump.

making it difficult for the control system to properly identify downhole pump load and fillage (pump-fill). To function correctly, automation systems must identify the friction load and decouple it from the hydraulic fluid pump load.
